This is my collection of New Zealand books I have read that have my farm and high country interests at heart. I love the personal stories of every day life living in remote places of New Zealand. How the women, as young brides, changed their lives forever to be with their rugged men in mostly lonely circumstances. Surrounded by hard working farm workers that required an endless stream of roasts and scones. The simple, non-materialistic ways and how they made do with what they had. Living off the land or until the next lot of mail was delivered which was sometimes months. Raising children with no-nonsense values. Often their parents becoming their teachers with what their environment allowed. Tough Kiwi kids that really had a slice of paradise at their feet.
The first book which I give a 10 out of 10 and really enjoyed was:
Snow On The Lindis
- Madge Snow with Bee Dawson
Madge Snow writes her story of her life on one of New Zealand's most well known high country stations, Morven Hills. Morven Hills is located in Central Otago of the South Island. Madge grew up on Malvern Downs which was once part of the Morven block.
The story goes straight into early history and then introduces Madge's childhood.
